Prednisolone

METHYL PREDNISOLONE :

• Most potent & most toxic i.v. steroid
• VIAL : 500mg / 1g dry powder
• Always given with glucose as it can induce hypoglycemia
• ALWAYS MONITOR B.P. & PULSE.

INDICATION :

1. Optic Neuritis – ONTT : Optic Neuritis Treatment Trial : 1gm/day for 3 days; followed by Tab Prednisolone 1gm/kg/day with 7 days tapering i.e. 60mg for 7days; 50mg x next 7 d; 40 – 30 – 20 – 10mg.
2. Choroiditis
3. Severe resistant intra ocular infection not responding to intensive treatment
4. Sterile endophthalmitis
5. AION : Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.
